CICADA 2 IS ON A PATH OF REVENGE WHILE NORA’S SECRET IS ULTIMATELY EXPOSED.
PARTNERSHIPS IN QUESTION:
In 2049, Nora visits Thawne once again and angrily questions him about why there is another Cicada. He claims to not no the reason and seems a bit flustered, which is highly unlike him. He looks at the timer in his cell and it now reads 11 minutes and counting down. Nora urges him to help her figure out what to do. The sinister speedster claims it is too late and that his “little runner” is now on her own. He urges her to tell her family about their partnership. In present day, Dwyer awakens to find himself in the remote cabin where Grace took him. Grace reveals herself to him and is happy to see him again. He quickly realizes she is from the future and asks her why she came back. She tells him that she came back to work with him again. She also plans to find a way to give him his powers back. Dwyer is a bit flustered by this, but says he’s happy to see her awake. Grace leaves to carry out the next part of her plan.
TEAM FLASH INVESTIGATE THE NEW THREAT:
Joe, Cecile, Barry and Nora all question several people at the hospital in order to determine if Ambres was Dwyer’s only accomplice. They come to the conclusion that she was his only helper. Meanwhile, Sherloque continues his decoding of Nora’s journal and gets closer to finding the identity of her mystery mentor. Ralph is back in time to join the team as they discuss the new Cicada and their power set. The team quickly realizes that this Cicada is from the future as they discover a time sphere in the woods that matches the one Thawne created. However, it is not a replica, but is in fact Thawne’s Time Sphere that is currently in the Starchives, a place where Team Flash store important items from past missions. Meanwhile, Grace sneaks into the CCPD file room and murders the guard. She retrieves the file on her parents accident and flees the scene. Team CCPD/CSI are hot on her trail and discover that the missing file is that of the accident in 2017.
ANOTHER AWKWARD DATE:
Cisco and Kamilla share another coffee date, but their bliss is interrupted by Ralph, who awkwardly tries to get Cisco to introduce her to the team. Cisco brushes him off. The date quickly ends as Kamilla has a gig to go to and Cisco is called away to help the team.
THE FIRST STARTLING REVELATION:
Cisco, Barry, and Nora travel to the place of the accident: an ATM machine. Cisco vibes the scorch marks and sees a hooded woman with energy abilities touch the ATM machine and leave. Then a man and a woman go to use the machine and it explodes as their young daughter (Grace) looks on in horror. The three quickly realize that this new Cicada is in fact Grace from the future. They take this information to the rest of the team. Meanwhile, Grace arrives back at the cabin and vents to Dwyer about her the death of her parents. Orlin, who has mellowed out due to the removal of the dark matter, questions his niece’s agenda. He is worried by the extreme hate and rage she harbors. She tells him that metas are an unchecked plague where she comes from and that she is dedicated to their mission. She is determined to kill everyone of them starting with the one who killed her parents.
ENTER VICKI BOLEN:
Both Grace and Team Flash track down Vicki Bolen, a simple soccer mom, who happens to be the meta involved in the accident. Team Flash finds her first and questions her at kids party. They realize that she has kept her powers from everyone she knows and did not know what had happened to Grace’s parents. They warn her that someone is after her and that she needs protection. Vicki tells them she doesn’t need it. Elsewhere, Ralph gets Kamilla a photography gig with Iris’s paper unbeknownst to Cisco. Cisco finds out and is mad at him for interfering. Back at the Starchives, Sherloque investigates the time sphere and Thawne’s other belongings and discovers a thumb drive in the villians power chair.
SHOWDOWN WITH CICADA 2 PART ONE:
Back at the kids party, Barry and Nora discuss secrets and how they can be detrimental to relationships. Barry tells her that one can’t really know another person if secrets exist between them. Nora’s guilt is visible on her face, but before she can say anything Grace arrives. She attempts to kill Vicki, but Flash and XS intervene. However, it is Vicki herself that temporarily defeats her with an energy blast. Unfortunately, Bolen’s daughter Alice is injured in the encounter which scares the young girl as well her Bolen’s husband.
RELATIONSHIPS STRAINED AND REPAIRED:
Once safe, Barry and Nora overhear the Bolens argue about Vicki’s powers with her husband calling her a time bomb that should not be near Alice. Elsewhere, Ralph and Cisco have a heart to heart in which Ralph encourages Cisco to blend his two lives because he is not being true to himself otherwise. Cisco tells him that he is happy Kamilla and that he actually feels normal when he is with her. He doesn’t want her near the superhero side of his life, but does realize that it will be difficult to keep her away. Meanwhile, Grace informs her uncle that she was unable to kill Vicki. He says he looked through the case file and believes that it was an accident. Grace refuses the truth and remains dedicated to her mission saying that she is only following his example. Orlin tells her he wanted the cure and that he wanted her to take it as well. He says Ambres can help her. Grace assures him that the doctor cannot as she killed her. Orlin is shocked and dismayed as Grace becomes more and more rageful. He tries to stop her from leaving, but is pushed down.
THE TIMELINE IS MALLEABLE:
Elsewhere, Sherloque enters the time vault and asks Gideon to play the contents of the drive. The video shows Thawne documenting his research on the timeline. He says that the multiverse has a source code that proves the timeline is malleable and that he has cracked it. This allows him to retain his memories of the timelines. The timeline symbols on Thawne’s board match those in Nora’s journal which proves to the detective that Thawne is in fact Nora’s instructor.
SHOWDOWN WITH CICADA 2 PART TWO:
Nora and Barry watch as Vicki and her daughter smooth things over. This prompts the young speedster to feel guilty about her own secret so much so that she tells her father that she needs to talk to him. Before she can say anything, Cicada 2 attacks again. The speedsters whisk the Bolens away except for Mr. Bolen whom Grace has at knife point. As the meta dagger chases Nora around the city, Barry attempts to reason with Grace, who is not receptive. Cisco and Ralph try to provide backup, but are blocked by Grace via her powers. Dwyer shows up to try to reach his niece. He is ultimately unsuccessful as she sends the dagger plunging into his back. The former villain dies in Barry’s arms and Grace escapes.
NORA’S SECRET EXPOSED:
Caitlin arrives back from the Tannhauser site to offer her discoveries about the new Cicada’s powers which are greater than those of her late uncle. She also seems to be able to manipulate dark matter in people and objects. They also discuss that the Bolens are safe in witness protection. Throughout the conversation, Nora becomes increasingly more nervous prompting Cecile’s to sense her feelings. Nora reveals to the team that she has something to tell them. She is unable to bring herself to do it however, so Sherloque does it instead revealing his investigation and the truth: Nora has been working with Eobard Thawne aka The Reverse Flash to disrupt the timeline. Sherloque believes that Thawne is using her for his own sinister goal and that they were all puppets in Thawne and Nora’s game. The rest of Team Flash are devastated especially Barry and Iris. Barry rushes her to the pipeline and puts her in a cell. Nora pleads with her father saying that she is sorry she lied. Barry sternly looks at her and replies: “I am too.” Nora is left alone in tears.
The secret is finally out!! That ending scene was fantastic and deeply emotional. The cast acted it to perfection in my opinion. Grant Gustin, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Candice Patton each gave incredibly moving performances. It was also deeply satisfying the see Sherloque finally get to reveal his season long work and that he ultimately figured her out. I also particularly enjoyed Sarah Carter’s performance as Cicada 2 and her scenes with Chris Klein as Dwyer. I feel like Klein shines more when he plays the kinder version of Dwyer. I also did not expect that he was going to die and even though he was a bit over the top at times, I am bummed to see him go. The next episode looks to be just as good as this one. Only bummer is that we now have another month long break until it airs! So stay tuned for more recaps & reviews and come back in a month for the next Flash recap & review!
