MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. RECAP & REVIEW:
THE FINAL SEASON (SEASON 7) EPISODE 7:
“THE TOTALLY EXCELLENT ADVENTURES OF MACK AND THE D”
AIRDATE: JULY 8, 2020 ON ABC
MACK AND DEKE, STRANDED IN THE EARLY ‘80’s, FACE KILLER ROBOTS IN A TOTALLY EXCELLENT ADVENTURE!
In a bit of a “filler” episode, Deke and Mack have quite an excellent adventure in 1982 when they are faced with a killer robot attack at the Lighthouse. Once again, this show delivers an exciting episode full of shenanigans, action, and heart! While this episode did not further the overall plot much, it allowed both Deke (Jeff Ward) and Mack (Henry Simmons) to bond even further. Both Ward and Simmons deliver incredible, heartwarming performances. Let’s recap!

In 1982, a computer repairman finds himself communicating with Sibyl (guest star Tamara Taylor) and helping her to form a new “body.” Upon completion of the rudimentary robot, the new Sibyl creates other robots and murders the repairman.
Meanwhile, Mack mourns his fallen parents and lets himself go over the course of a year. Deke attempts to help him, but is continually rejected.
Despite this, Deke eventually gets through to him by tricking him into going to a bar. Once there, Mack is treated to a concert featuring Deke and the Deke Squad. Agent Shaw takes the audience by storm with his latest song “Don’t You (Forget About Me) which is one of many ‘80’s hits he has stolen. After their set, Deke explains to a reluctant Mack that the band is actually a cover for his new crop of S.H.I.E.L.D. hopefuls. Based at the Lighthouse, the squad includes: Roxy Glass (covert ops), Olga (demolitions expert), Tommy and Ronny Chang aka The Chang Gang (masters of disguise), and Cricket (the drummer who sells cocaine). This motley crew has discovered via Coulson (who was uploaded to a hard drive) that Sibyl also escaped!

After a pitiful training session, Deke tries once again to recruit Mack back to the cause. He offers him a new chrome shotgun axe, but the director refuses.
However, Mack joins the fight after Cricket is murdered by one of Sibyl’s killer robots. Mack and crew successfully fight and destroy Sibyl and her killer robots in spectacular fashion.

With Sibyl seemingly defeated, May and Yo-Yo finally arrive to pick Mack and Deke up. Before departing, Mack (with Deke) visits his younger self (whom Deke has been visiting for the past year).
As the team sets off, a smaller robot steals the time stream and delivers it to Nathaniel Malick (who is still alive)! Malick then communes with Sibyl who claims they will be a great pair.
Once again, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. delivers a fun, exciting, cleverly written, heartwarming episode. Jeff Ward and Henry Simmons truly shine in this ‘80’s pop culture inspired adventure. This episode did a stellar job of dealing with the tragic events of the previous episode while also giving audiences a bit of a breather.
I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!
Excelsior!
